CHEN.3080 Introduction to Material Science (Formerly 10.308, and CHEN.3080)

Id: 002866 Credits: 3-3

Description

This course introduces the fundamental principles of materials science, focusing on the structure, properties, processing, and performance of engineering materials common in chemical process industries. Students will explore the relationships between atomic structure, microstructure, and macroscopic properties of metals, ceramics, polymers, and to a limited extent composites. Key topics include unit structures of materials, phase diagrams, mechanical behavior, and thermal properties. Additionally, students are introduced to material selection and design considerations for chemical engineering applications.

Prerequisites

Pre-Reqs: CHEM 1210 Chemistry I, and CHEM 1220 Chemistry II.
