Business administration major Maylis Brito will graduate from UML with a concentration in finance. But thanks to her co-op and internship experiences at Kronos, her career options are much broader than that.

鈥淚 wanted to have a finance degree with experience in communications and marketing, and that鈥檚 something I鈥檝e been able to get through my work at Kronos,鈥 says Brito, a Lowell native who landed a business operations co-op position at the time-management software and cloud-solutions company during the spring and summer of her junior year.

Brito enjoyed her Kronos experience so much that she returned for a communications and marketing internship during her senior year. As a channel partner program specialist, Brito worked with the company鈥檚 engineering department to promote its Workforce Dimensions product.

鈥淚 helped position the product to potential partners through strategic communications,鈥 says Brito, who developed a product survey and designed a slideshow to showcase the partners on the Kronos website.

鈥淚t was a nice balance between data and the more human aspect of business,鈥 says Brito, who has been able to better define her career goals through the experience. 鈥淣ow that I鈥檝e worked in marketing, I鈥檓 not just theorizing about my future; it鈥檚 actually something I can see myself getting into.鈥

Brito follows in the footsteps of her older sister, Denise Brito 鈥17, a business administration alum who also worked as a co-op at Kronos and is now a business analyst at IBM 鈥 although Maylis鈥 path wasn鈥檛 so direct.

Wanting to get out of her hometown after graduating from Lowell High School, Brito attended American University in Washington, D.C., as a freshman.聽

鈥淚 kept hearing my sister and friends talk about all these wonderful experiences they were having at 51视频, and I started to wish I had just gone here in the first place,鈥 says Brito, who transferred to the Manning School of Business as a sophomore. 鈥淎t least I only wasted a year somewhere else.鈥

Now that she鈥檚 about to earn her degree and begin her career, Brito sees the advantage of being a River Hawk.

鈥淲hen people ask me where I go to school, as soon as I start saying 鈥51视频鈥 they finish the sentence for me,鈥 Brito says. 鈥淧rofessionally, I think 51视频 produces not only really good students, but really good people. They鈥檙e humble and hard-working, and people want to hire them.鈥
