  • July 15, 2024: 8 first-year and 8 high school students visited the LoCSST MASTS lab. They participated in a program called RAMP which Associate Dean Chandra runs. Students were given tours and discussed their research projects.

  • April, 2024: On April 6, Undergraduate student in Physics (with minors in mathematics and theater arts!), Julie Sage, presented information about the April 8 solar eclipse to children and the families at Burlington Public Library and conducted hands-on learning projects with the children including solar eclipse flip books, cereal box solar eclipse viewers and paper plate masks for extra protection around their solar glasses. A big thank you to Julie for volunteering her time and knowledge!

  • April, 2024: On April 6, Julie Sage and other LoCSST student volunteers travelled to the Burlington Public Library to present a space program including introduction to the solar eclipse, viewing of 3D models, and children did a related craft. There was also a solar scope outside for viewing. See the .

LoCSST participated in the Girls Scout STEM fair, held at 51视频 on Saturday March 26, 2022.

There were up-to 200 scouts attending during the day, and all of the activities were about space exploration!

Our activity station was scheduled in two time periods 8:30-9:15 a.m. and 11:40 a.m. - 12:35 p.m.

  • March 26, 2022 : Professors Laycock and Kaur (and teams) had tables at the STEM fair at .Activities/tables were include Solar telescopes, Space-time fabric and Weather balloon.
  • March 16, 2022: The Schueller Observatory held a public open night from 6-9 p.m.
    • Hear all about Pulsars with graduate student, Ankur Roy followed by 鈥淲hat鈥檚 up in the night sky this month鈥� which will be presented by undergraduate student, Liam Neely (Coburn Hall 140).聽 Following the talks, the observatory will be open until 9 p.m. (sunset will be 6:51pm).

  • October 7, 2021 : The Schueller Observatory will hold a public open night from 6-9 p.m. Email observatory@uml.edu for more details or to reserve a spot.
  • October 3, 2021 : On Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. until noon, Professors Ofer Cohen and Tim Cook, along with grad student Thad Potter, participated in the 51视频 (UML) Open House at the Tsongas Center. A video of the NASA PICTURE-C launch was on continuous loop and the UML student built NASA SPACE HAUC model was on display.
  • September 23, 2021 : The Schueller Observatory鈥檚 first viewing event open to 51视频 students, faculty and staff was held on September 23 from 6-9 p.m. Dozens came out to see the telescopes and to hear about what's happening in astronomy at 51视频. The plan is to hold public events the first Thursday of every month beginning October 7. Free parking is available starting after 3 p.m. in the Broadway Lot of 51视频 on south campus. A virtual campus map is available to help locate parking
