The Radiation Laboratory fosters interdisciplinary academic activity to support faculty and student research for 51视频 and the entire University of Massachusetts system. The laboratory supports existing 51视频 degree programs in sciences, engineering, and other disciplines through faculty and student research, academic course use, student work-study, and student tours.
Tours
Tours of the laboratory may be arranged, during the daytime on weekdays, only by request in advance. Your request is not confirmed unless you receive an "Approved" response and all information is submitted as required.
How to Request a Tour
- Email: Reactor@uml.edu to arrange a mutually allowed time, be sure to include; your name, your organization (if any), anticipated number of attendees (less than 30), several desired times and dates (typically more than a month in advance).
- When a date and time is approved:
- Submit a Tour Request Form for External Guests or a 51视频 Faculty, Staff and Students Reactor Tour Request form. For this, you will need the names and addresses of all visitors, that match their government issued identification, (required at least 48 hours in advance).
Requirements of a Tour:
- Your tour was pre-arranged and approved.
- All attendees must be US citizens (non citizens must be International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) cleared, contact export controls).
- The information (name and address) is provided in advance.
- You follow all requirements and instructions of the tour guide at all times
The Day of the Tour:
Wear sensible shoes (no sandals, heels and similar footwear).
NOTE: The following items are NOT ALLOWED into the reactor building. An office location can be provided to temporarily store these items, though UMass is NOT responsible for any lost items.
- Carry items such as backpacks, bags, purses and more
- Food or drink items
- Coats and jackets
- Cameras and Cell phones (exceptions may be made in advance)
In Class High School Visits:
We have partnerships with several departments for high school visits. For example the Radiological Sciences (RadSci) program offers high school tours and other Education and Outreach opportunities.
